A Letter from Tim Ciccone
Now and then we all get to experience moments that we remember for the rest of our lives. These are moments that change us forever. They are epic moments that can come at times when we least expect it, perhaps breathing new energy and life into the depth of our souls. But sometimes these historic moments come with the anticipation of something so special that we can hardly wait for it to arrive. ((Deep Breath)) …CHIC 2018 is such a moment.

What is CHIC?
This summer a pilgrimage will be happening when over 5000 Covenanters – teenagers and their accompanying adult leaders – will be traveling to the University of Tennessee for an event called “CHIC”. CHIC stands for “Covenant High In Christ” and is an event that has been gathering since 1956. The heart of CHIC is to bring the teenagers of the denomination together, and in partnership with our local Covenant churches, challenge a generation to go deeper in their faith in Jesus Christ, mobilizing them to go back to their communities following the Spirit’s lead to build the Kingdom of God. In all this we value the story of every teenager and engage the very present value of having fun while our discipleship is deepened!

The Call to UNITE
The theme for CHIC 2018 is found in scripture’s call in Ephesians 4 when Paul writes:

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”

CHIC 2018 is calling all teenagers across the Covenant church to UNITE around the purposes of God so that together we may go deeper in our faith and be commissioned and sent out to mobilize around the Holy Spirit movement in the world. Certainly the Lord uses individuals to accomplish his will in the world, but HOW MUCH MORE can He use a gathering of thousands of teenagers, fully committed to following the Spirit’s lead, to bring about His purposes. CHIC is such a moment!

We are praying that the Holy Spirit will bless this event, that lives will be changed, that all glory will go to the Father, and the Kingdom of God will advance.

I am asking each of you, Covenant sisters and brothers, to join us in Knoxville this coming July. CHIC will be a moment like no other and we hope each of you can be a part of this movement as we discover that we can do more, together.

I can’t wait to UNITE!
