CHIC Checklist
Can you believe CHIC is just FIVE DAYS AWAY?! Time to cross our t’s and dot our i’s! We want to make it easy on you to be prepared, so check out the checklist below and arrive at CHIC ready to go!
Download the app.
While you’ll be provided with a pocket guide upon arrival at CHIC, the app will contain the most up-to-date information including schedules, locations, special events, announcements, resources, and more! We’ll regularly update the app during the event, so you won’t want to miss out. Search “CHIC 2018” in your app store.
Make sure you’ve sent in your CHIC covenant.
As part of the Pre-CHIC Curriculum, we asked youth groups to complete the CHIC Covenant found at the end, committing to love and respect one another as the body of Christ at CHIC. If you weren’t able to send in your CHIC Covenant, please bring the signed document to CHIC and we’ll collect it at registration.
Make sure all adults attending CHIC have completed the Adult Training.
This includes two parts: 1) read the Leadership Manual, and 2) complete background check. These must be completed by every adult attending CHIC prior to arrival.
Have your students bring donations for Knoxville Area Rescue Mission.
While spots to volunteer at KARM stores filled up fast, you can still participate in our service opportunity by collecting gently used clothing, shoes, and media to donate for KARM stores. These items can be easily packed in a suitcase and we will collect these donations at registration.
On the bus or plane: Have your students write cards and letters for Knoxville Area Rescue Mission.
Another way you can participate in our service project is through KARM’s initiative called Every Bed Every Day (EBED). KARM provides 300 beds for those in need of a place to sleep, and the staff seeks to pray over each bed, whether in person or through a handwritten card or letter. Have your students keep busy on the trip to CHIC by creating letters of prayer, encouragement, scripture, drawings, etc. We’ll collect them at registration.
Students will also have an opportunity to participate throughout the week– Hallmark has donated cards that will be available in the craft tent at the Nest! Let’s bless some people in need at CHIC 2018!
Get ready for Project UNITE.
Our CHIC 2018 offering opportunity will cover two areas of need: 1) a response to the refugee crisis, and 2) a CHIC legacy fund. Encourage your students to come prepared to give as they are led. If you are writing a check, you can make it out to the Evangelical Covenant Church with “CHIC Offering” in the memo. Learn more about Project UNITE here.
Tell your runners about the Project UNITE 5K.
Back by popular demand is our CHIC 5k! On Tuesday morning at 7am, get ready to run (or walk!) The cost is $25 and includes a special tee shirt. This year, proceeds will go to Project UNITE, our offering opportunity supporting refugee relief and a CHIC legacy fund for future students. Sign up for the 5K here.
Check out these CHIC Hacks.
Suggested by veteran CHIC attendees, these tips will help you make the most of your week at CHIC.
Get hyped for Mainstage.
Check out the incredible artists and speakers joining us at Mainstage. You can also listen to our official CHIC 2018 playlist! (Can you say bus ride soundtrack?!) Please also prepare your students for UT’s Clear Bag Policy in the Thompson-Boling Arena (this applies to the arena only—students can carry their bags, purses, and backpacks anywhere else at CHIC). North Park University is generously donating clear bags for all students to bring into the arena. For a small fee, you can also check your bag at the lower level of the arena.
Start packing.
To make sure you don’t miss anything, check out our packing list here. If you are going on excursions that require specific clothing or gear, make sure to bring it! (See the bottom of the packing list). Also note what’s not allowed at CHIC: alcohol, any weapons, controlled substances, firearms, fireworks, immodest clothing, and laser pointers.
Notify parents and congregations about the livestream.
During the conference, the unite2021.org home page will transform into the livestream. Parents can keep up with what their students are experiencing each evening. This would also be an awesome activity or event for younger (middle school) students who are eager to attend CHIC someday!
Join us in prayer!
Praying for our students and leaders is one of the best ways to prepare for CHIC. Our prayer team has been intentionally praying for months and will continue praying throughout the event and as youth groups return home. You can submit specific prayer requests through the CHIC app.
